What does it mean when a ghost becomes your friend?

Ghosts should never become friends to human beings.  While it is possible to live peacefully with a ghost, it must be remembered that the reason ghosts hang around human beings is so that the ghost can have a source of energy to draw from.  Human beings are akin to being "batteries" for ghosts, and ghosts are able to draw off the energy that human beings create.  Becoming friends with a ghost only sets up a parasitic situation, with the ghost being the parasite that feeds off its' human host.

I would like to know if my mother who has been dead over 20 years, or my father, who died in 2000, know that I miss them and love them, and have they ever tried to contact me?

Your mother and father both know that you miss them and love them.  The spirits of loved ones are very much aware of our feelings towards them.  They do come around to visit on occasion, usually during "family" times, such as holidays, weddings, births, and deaths.

What does it mean to see a dead pet come to life and then die again in a dream?  Does it mean they're saying goodbye or that they're watching me?  Please tell me soon.

A dream like that could be the spirit of your pet communicating goodbye to you, especially if they were unable to be with you at the end of their physical life.

Why do ghosts only try to scare the hell out of people only at night?

Because the dark is scary to most people already.  Add some noises, an apparition, and you have the perfect combination for scaring a person. 
Fear creates energy for ghosts to use.  Lots of fear creates lots of energy.

My beloved Grandmother died more than 20 years ago.  I still miss her and would like to know if she is around me, or if I can contact her somehow, without contacting bad spirits.

People can always contact their deceased loved ones, simply by speaking to them, thinking of them or saying prayers to them.  Those who have passed over into the Afterlife know and appreciate it when they are remembered.
