Man Photographs "Ghost" in Park

Sheffield Park spook or spoof?

Christopher Petty and his brother decided to spend a day outdoors, enjoying the warm Sussex sunshine. Little did they know when they started out that they would be joined by someone or something else.

Sunday, May 16th, started like any other day in early Summer.

The sun was shining, and like many of us, Christopher Petty decided to make the most of the weather and get out and about.  He and his brother decided to visit the National Trust's historic Sheffield Park Gardens in Sussex, England.  They took their cameras as it is a beautiful spot, and thought that some photos of their visit would make for some nice memories.  As they started snapping away, neither of them expected the following results to show up when the photos were developed:

Chris explains:  "In the photo there appears to be a shadowy woman next to me that I can't explain.  There was nobody beside me at the time the photo was taken, nor are there any statues in that area."

A National Trust representative confirmed that there are no statues in the park.  And from there, the plot thickened...

On August 4th, 2001, 87 year old Mrs. Florence Bristow went to the same Gardens, with her son John and his wife, to enjoy an afternoon out.  They rented a buggy to travel around the edge of the lake at the Park.  Unfortunately, Mrs. Bristow suffered a heart attack and fell across her son, who lost control of the buggy, which drove right into the lake.  Mrs. Bristow and John were rescued from the lake right away, but in spite of resuscitation efforts, Mrs. Bristow could not be saved.

When Mrs. Bristow's son and his family first saw Christopher's photo on the internet, they were shocked, and convinced that they were looking at an identical image of Mrs. Bristow.  John submitted the following photo to compare to the photo that Chris' brother, Paul, snapped.  The photo on the left is Mrs. Bristow in 1979.  The photo on the right is an enhanced version of Chris' photo.  The resemblance is striking.

Is this the ghost of Mrs. Bristow?  Or is it just a passerby that Chris didn't pay any attention to, who just happens to bear a striking resemblance to Mrs. Bristow?
