A 23-foot tall betel tree in Northern Malaysia has caused quite a stir in the community as people flock to take a look at the face forming on a frond.  Locals in the village of Kampung Paya have dubbed the tree "The Ghost Tree".  The face most resembles a Pacific Island ritual mask.

The owner of the tree, Miah Majid, 60, reported that this isn't the first time an anomaly has appeared on her 10-year old tree.  The first anomaly was shaped like an eye.  The frond will eventually be shed from the tree.

Superstitious villagers advise not to make comments when walking past the tree.  Other villagers are selling photos of the face for 2 ringgit (30 pence).
